Subject : Brother Herman in Mutah :: Mutah Expedition ::

Masya Allah

Just got an sms from Bro Herman Maryuti - our brother is in Jordan and he had just visited Mut'ah. unbelievable kan ? i envy him so much ...

And i am more jealous coz Bro Herman just visited the graves of Zaid ibn Harith, Ja'afar ibn Taalib and Abdullah ibn Rawahah - they were the 3 shabab whom they Prophet (saw) had appointed as amir for the Mutah Expedition !!!

Mutah - sound familiar ? well, that was where the famous battle of 3000 sahabahs battled against 200,000 Roman army led by Shahrabil (100,000 of his men) and reinforced by another 100,000 of Caeser's men ..

The Prophet (saw) left the army a piece of advice before they left off " should Zaid meet his martyrdom, Ja'afar will lead the army, should Ja'far meet his martydom Abdullah Ibn Rawaha will be the amir" - apparently all 3 met they martydom in that expedition and the war was concluded as a "stalemate" for both sides - but the Roman suffered the bigger lost since they had sent a far larger troop and couldn't crush the Muslims as they had expected and with the far mightier military equipments that they had.

The Muslim army returned back to Medina (then) led by Khalid bin Walid .... It is a very interesting point that although Khalid (ra) was around in the expedition and who was an experienced General - he had never met defeat in any war that he led and during the time of Abu Bakar, Khalid ibn Walid led a lot of campaign especially against all the apostates (after the death of the Prophet saw) and also the false prophets, and never had he lost - and was reknowned for his chivalry and good strategies in war yet the Prophet (saw) appointed these 3 young men. These shabbab prolly shared an average age of 25 - 30 years old (then) yet they led the biggest expediton the Muslims had ever undertook and with the largest amount of manpower that the Muslims had ever garnered then - 3000 men and equipped with military equipments.

Why wasn't Khalid ibn Walid (ra) picked as amir ? I'd like to think that the Prophet (saw) had preferred shabbab or youth ... and that these youth had been Muslims far longer then Khalid - and it is apparent that piety supercedes many other things when it comes to being an amir . Allahu Akhbar ...

The Ummayyad dynasy for example began by the appointment of Muawiyah (ra) and Yazid, subsequently .... Muawiyah whom had pedigree (being the son of Abu Sofyan and Hind ... who were noblemen of the Arab Quraish . and the Quraish were the top tribe in the Bani Hashim who were the most prestiges lineage among the Arab tribe) and was also (probably) trained by his parents .. didnt actually created the kinda leadership that made the majority of the sahabah happy and he didnt actually built what the Khalifatu Rashideen had tried to build or what the Prophets (saw) had restored among the Arabs. Instead he or his doings created a monarchy in the caliphate and so on .. of course we couldn't discredit him and must acknowledge his contribution and he was one amongst the sahabah and since he had memorized several hadith by the Prophet (saw) - so enough said ... my point here is : piety was the option of the day .. according to the Prophet (saw) - of course base on my humble personal opinion ...
Back to the Muta expedition and youth... the 3 shababs were exemplary youth who had contributed so much for Islam and if you were to spend your time reading about the Muta expedition - you would be moved by the acts and deeds of the sahabah and the small army in the face of 200,000 strong and fully equipped Romans that were in front of them .... " especially the words that ibn Rawahah had said to the army to motivate the Muslim troop " (go check it out! google it !!)

As youth (me being one of them still :P), we should realise the great trust and emphasis that the Prophet (saw) had placed upon us .. or people within this age range ... how much potential that he (saw) saw and oppurtunities that had been given to the shabbab .. Musaib bin Umair, Ammar bin Yasir, Abu Jandall, and so many more ..

Let us also carry on these tradition and culture of striving that had been left by the young sahabah ... i had always wanted to visit that area (Mutah) and be at awe and remind myself the power of youth and how much the Prophet(saw) entrusted the youth among the earlier Muslim and how "spot on" it had been in every decison the he (saw) had made, then ...

i envy bro herman for beating me to it ...

let's carry on the foot steps of these youth and promise ourself - never should we waver ...

wallahua'lam ....

Nampaknya terpaksalah kami menunggu hingga 12.50 tengah hari.

"Flight QR 627 to Amman"

Menunggulah kita.....
